EMDR is a form of psychotherapy that helps people who have experienced past traumas or other disturbing life experiences that continues to bother you in the present day.
Traumatic and painful experiences are stored in the brain with a lot of emotions. Our bodies naturally ‘process’ these experiences over time, meaning that we are able to move past these events and get on with our lives successfully. Sometimes, however, a trauma or disturbing experience may be so overwhelming that the brain is not able to fully process the event – it gets stuck, and memories of it keep coming back unintentionally causing you to feel powerless, guilty, believing that are you are not worthwhile, or that you are defective in some way.
EMDR therapy can help you to process these types of memories, resulting in painful feelings being exchanged for more resolved, peaceful feelings.
EMDR has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma and other anxiety-based problems.
